Yogi trainiert neben Yogi, Matte liegt neben Matte.

The oldest Bikram Yoga studio in Vienna is one of the first in Europe, at the same time, and is set at Neubaugürtel 47 opposite the public library of the city. It is accessible via the elevator at Neubaugürtel 47 – don’t get lost at Lugner City – or the glass bridge next to the Aida cafe right of the stairs and is set in the fifth floor.

Here, on top of the town, a gorgeous, light flooded, almost “heavenly” hot room is waiting for the trainees. Separated changing rooms, many showers, washing lotions and hair dryers are provided. The climate of the room is stabilised at a degree of 38 to 40 by a special heating system, consisting of heating rays, ventilation and air dampers. The Studio floor is covered by an oiled wooden floor and is sanitised twice a day and mopped after every class. By looking at the huge mirrors, everyone is able to control and correct their positioning by themself.

Yogi is training next to Yogi. Mat is lying next to mat. The windows are opened slightly from time to time. It is very hot: the highly pregnant Lilly isn’t just teaching with confidence, but also able to give helpful advice.

The session begins at nine a.m. At half past two p.m. my train is leaving back to Switzerland: I have a bit of time to meet my friend and her husband. We toast with a bottle of red Prosecco – the bottle top is a feast for the eyes – and create a little, improvised sandwich – buffet beneath a tree. We’re even able to head down a little part of the Donau canal before we make our way to the western train station. What could be lovelier than to combine your passion and your friendship?
