Bikramyoga Schottenring, Wien

The owner of the Bikram Yoga studio in Schottenring is called Tushima “Tammy” Goswami Rauch. She and her husband Mario Rauch are managing their studio at this very special location in the heart of Vienna with a lot of passion and dedication. The furnishing – newly furnished locker rooms, showers and rest room, a long, narrow, three and a half metres high hot room with mirrored walls – is letting visitors with the addition of lots of candles, ethereal oils, dimming lights, it necessary, Buddhas, as well as a lot of wall decorations know, that Tammys, who is the boss of the establishment, country of origin is India.

She became a teacher in 2006 and travelled to Vienna to visit the studio almost as soon as it had opened. That was in the summer of 2010. The lessons are attended very well. The instructor is standing on a podium, which enables her to see every student and correct or encourage them, when needed. She’s wearing a top with the eye of a peacock, which fits her very well. Sometimes she teaches in English, sometimes in German with an accent but an unmistakable touch of the Viennese dialect, which captures every Yogi in the class. At the end of the 90 minute long and exhausting workout the trainees and their teacher sit in the lounge, eat a fruit and drink some tea. Already, the next Yogis are walking into the hot room.
